Sardines

Sometimes dubbed as "the poor man's canned good" sardines are another staple found in meals of most families that survive on a very tight budget in the place where I grow up. If you think that you're just eating sardines to get by and calm the growling stomach, think again. You're actually giving your body a hefty serving of omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fight against cancer, combat asthma, prevent arthritis, lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, arterial plaque and other abnormalities of the heart. Other diseases that have also been seen to respond to Omega 3's include psoriasis, diabetes, depression and Alzheimer's disease.

Sardines are also great source of protein about 11 grams of it per can. This means you don't have to buy much more expensive meat like pork or beef to get your protein requirements for the day. Sardines also give you calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, vitamin B6 and niacin. These help build muscles, maintain your cardiovascular system, prevent joint disease and osteoporosis, prevent diabetes and fight cancer.

some people underestimate the benefits of sardines, but as what they say too much of it is bad, remember it has high preservatives too.

I like sardines and eat them often! Knowing that they are good for you is of course a further advantage. (I like however sweets of all kinds also.)

It's my comfort food. I love sardines during typhoon season in the Phils. They are easy to prepare. I like them sautéd in garlic, onions and tomatoes with soy sauce. Now I'm hungry.

I eat canned Sardines on crackers as a snack, but never considered them for a meal. Thanks for the tip.
