Cruise - Pre-Trip Savings

* BOOK THROUGH A SPECIALIZED TRAVEL AGENCY - they usually have deals and sometimes cut cruise fares up to 50 % off the brochure price.

* BOOK EARLY OR BOOK LATE - Slash your bill by reserving at least six months in advance. Or choose your package less than 30 days before sailing.

* TWEAK YOUR TIMING - Reductions are available off season or on a repositioning run that spends a lot of time crossing an ocean.

* DRIVE TO THE EMBARKATION PORT - If you're only a short distance away, you can skip the plane fare.

* BOOK YOUR OWN FLIGHTS - Cruise lines offer convenient air-sea packages, but you can usually find cheaper flights on the Web. If your airplane is delayed, the vessel won't wait for you, whereas cruise lines will make every effort to get you on the ship if you book directly to them. Four family of four, however the money saved by booking your own flight can more than pay for a pre-cruise hotel stay, enabling you to lengthen your trip while ensuring that you'll make it to the ship on time.

* CHOOSE AN INSIDE CABIN - Portholes and balconies are sold at a premium. Also, third and fourth passengers in the same cabin can sail for far less, in some cases. children sail free.
