Miss Earth 2008 Pageant - Miss Phillippines

Karla Paula Ginteroy Henry from the Pacific island of Cebu City, Philippines has been crowned as the world’s greenest beauty and walked off with the prestigious tittle Miss Earth 2008, besting 85 other candidates from all over the world. The Coronation Night held at the Clark Expo Ampitheater in Pampanga Sunday evening. She also won the Miss Earth Designers Award and Miss Photogenic special award.

In the final question and answer round, the final four were asked on what they would tell US president-elect Barack Obama about the state of the global environment if ever they were to meet. Henry responded by saying she would encourage Obama to implement environmental knowledge in the curriculum of schools not just in the US, but also in the Philippines. "Environmental knowledge is something that all of us must share, but most importantly we must teach the youth that this is something that we should instill in them so that in the near future they will be the ones to take care of our mother Earth," she said.

Proud to be a Filipina and a Cebuana:-) She has the brain and the beauty.

Thanks Giving History

Thanksgiving was a religious holiday in which they would go to church and thank God for a specific event, such as the winning of a battle. On such a religious day, the types of recreational activities that the pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians participated in during the 1621 harvest feast--dancing, singing secular songs, playing games--wouldn't have been allowed. The feast was a secular celebration, so it never would have been considered a thanksgiving in the pilgrims minds. In 1623 a day of fasting and prayer during a period of drought was changed to one of thanksgiving because the rain came during the prayers. Gradually the custom prevailed in New England of annually celebrating thanksgiving after the harvest.

During the American Revolution a yearly day of national thanksgiving was suggested by the Continental Congress. In 1817 New York State adopted Thanksgiving Day as an annual custom, and by the middle of the 19th century many other states had done the same. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln appointed a day of thanksgiving as the last Thursday in November, which he may have correlated it with the November 21, 1621, anchoring of the Mayflower at Cape Cod. Since then, each president has issued a Thanksgiving Day proclamation. President Franklin D. Roosevelt set the date for Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of November in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941)

Thanksgiving Day in America it is a time to offer thanks, a family gatherings and holiday meals. A time of turkeys, ham, stuffing, and pumpkin pie yum,yum,yummy:-). A time for Indian corn, holiday parades and giant balloons. Some entertainment and some fun Holiday things like pictures for the kids to print and color, tasty holiday recipes and e-greeting cards to send your friends and family. Hope you will enjoy this time of year with your family, thankful for all the blessing we received each day. Happy Thanks Giving To All :-)

Tips To Make Your Roses Last

When you receive roses or any cut flowers there are few things you can do to help them last, if not as long as your everlasting love, at least a few extra days.

* Trim an inch or so off the bottom of the stem, preferably with the a sharp knife.
* Remove any leaves that will be under the water.
* place the flowers in a clean vase and add water mixed with the floral food provided by the florist. Be sure to read the directions on the floral food. Too much can cause as much of a problem as too little. Also, it helps to use warm water, not cold.
* Check the water daily. Add water when necessary. If the water becomes cloudy, pour it out and replace it with fresh water and floral food. If you're out of the floral food, a blend of 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon bleach and 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice with a quart of warm water will do the job. It's a good idea to trim another inch off the stem when you change water and again remove any leaves that will now be under water.
* It is also a good idea to avoid placing cut flowers on top of TV's and stereos, or in windows where the sun can overheat them.
