How To Pick Good Produce Fruits

Season for fresh fruits and vegetables and these fresh finds can be tricky to pick.

Pineapple - Look for a pineapple with skin that is more yellow that green. A bright hue and subtle aroma indicate that the fruit is sweet and ripe.

Tomato - Seek firm tomatoes with smooth skin. Tomatoes with a greenish hue are fine since they will continue to ripen at room temperature. Do not store tomatoes in the fridge, they'll lose their flavor.

Avocado - Avocados should have skin that is more purplish black thank dark green. To speed the ripening process, place avocados in a paper bag with a ripe banana at room temperature for one to two days.

Cantaloupe - Make sure the stem area is smooth, this means the melon dropped off the vine at peak ripeness. Give it a good shake too. If you hear the seeds rattling inside, it is a juicy melon.

That fruit looks very inviting. Good to buy ripe fruit, we find they don't always ripen properly if you bring them home too early.
