Wise Decisions

The life expectancy for appliances improves if you follow the manufacturer's instructions. Other points to consider:

* If repair costs more than half the price of a new appliance, buy a new one.

* Ask if a repair shop provides a warranty for repairs; insist on a minimum of 30 days coverage.

* For repairs, pay with credit card, if possible, hold onto the receipt.

* Keep a repair and maintenance log for appliances and keep manufacturer's warranties and operating information in one place.
