Stress Less

* Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique. Inhale through your nose as you count four, hold for a count of seven, the exhale through your your mouth for a count of eight, says Ronal Stram, MD, founder of the Center For Integrative Health and Healing in Delmar, New York.
* Wake like a tortoise, not a hare. " Walking gently sets up your day to be more peaceful". Change your alarm from a loud blare to a softer tone. And set it for 10 minutes before you really need to get up so you can wake at your own pace.
* Balance carbohydrates and proteins. Knowing that carbohydrates can relax and protein energizes equips you to make better food choices so you're at the top of your game all day.
* Chew gum. Research indicates chewing gum may reduce anxiety and help with focus and attention.
* Relax the old fashion way. Soak for 12 minutes in a warm tub with 2 cups of Epsom salts.
* Pet a pet. " Walking dogs and feeding kittens take me to a complete Zen state says New York PR expert who volunteers at a pet center.
